In this free workshop, learn about the shared history and relationship of Maine and Wabanaki people. The workshop is offered by Maine-Wabanaki REAC, a grassroots organization that provides education in Maine and Wabanaki communities about history, the impact of trauma, strategies for healing and actions to strengthen Wabanaki self-determination.
Literacy awareness will focus on local literacy, learning styles, and tutor training. Free and open to all.

Featuring Artist Jess Hardy of Pembroke
Jessie Hardy is currently working on her bachelors in Art Education, Psychology, and Studio Art with a minor in Art History at the University of Maine in Orono. Her plan is to continue on to graduate school to study Art Therapy. She was born and raised in Pembroke, Maine and growing up on the coast has influenced her as an artist. Jessie considers her artwork to be an exploration of her interaction with her environment, other people, and her experiences. Through art she reflects upon her inner dialogues that are evoked by day to day experiences.

Dom Winski grew up in Trescott, Maine and is currently a PhD candidate at Dartmouth College. “I’ve always loved Downeast Maine and I’m excited to be able to come home and share what I’ve learned,” he said. His research has taken him to Antarctica, Alaska and the Northern Pacific Region where he has drilled and studied ice cores to reconstruct the climatic history of these areas. His presentation will focus on the results of the research as they may apply to Downeast communities.
