KinderArts presents Tiny Yogis

Tiny Yogis sessions led by Caroline DiLio will resume for an 8-week session beginning September 19; the  program, which is part of EAC's KinderArts offerings, is intended for children up to age 5. The group will meet from 9:30-10:15 am on Thursday mornings through November 7. DiLio will teach attendees yoga through music, dance and storybooks, and young participants will even learn meditation. Owner of Maine Moon Kids Yoga, DiLio is a certified children's yoga teacher and a mother of three. She takes a creative approach to teaching children, including games, crafts and sometimes even Minecraft poses! KinderArts programs are free of charge. Participants must come with a parent or caregiver. The program's goal is to encourage young children to explore the visual and performing arts in a secure and social environment through hands-on experiences. Frida Friday: Sip ‘n’ Paint Symbolic Portraits with Sue Riddle

Frida Friday, a sip ’n’ paint event, will be offered from 6-9 pm, Friday, October 18, at Eastport Arts Center. Organizer Sue Riddle, who has previously led sip ’n’ paint events inspired by Gustav Klimt and Franz Marc, will guide attendees in creating symbolic portraits inspired by both the works of Frida Kahlo and those of local artists whose self portraits are currently on view at EAC’s Washington Street Gallery. “I chose Frida Kahlo because of her use of personal totem/symbolism in her self-portraits,” said Riddle, and went on to explain her concept for the session: “Attendees may also choose a painting in the Self Portraits Exhibit and wish to use that as an inspiration for their own self-discovery.

Life Drawing Workshop with Anne Hopkins

Eastport Arts Center’s weekly Life Drawing Workshop will resume Wednesday, September 18 at 7 pm, and will meet weekly from 7-9 pm Wednesdays through November 6. The group, which will work from a live model, will be led by Anne Shields Hopkins, a frequent participant in past sessions of the workshop. Hopkins was raised in the salty North Atlantic and was trained at the Pratt Institute. They are a maker, mother, organizer and fire builder, and have become known for bringing a flair for dramatic play to the weekly community art gatherings. Participants, who may work in any medium of their choice, should expect movement, openings, quiet moments and excitement in the workshop’s self-guided 2 hours of creation. Participation fee will be $10/session, or $60 for the full 8 weeks.

Local artist barbara toothpick will present One-Woman Show With Alan on Friday, October 25 at 7 pm, and Saturday, October 26 at 3 pm, at Eastport Arts Center. Featuring 17 costume changes, three life-sized effigies, original music and paintings, toothpick’s show depicts her quest for what she can trust in an ever-changing world. Toothpick describes the show as “a romp” and notes, “It’s not preachy and telly, it’s showy and do-Eeeeeee!” It is directed and produced by Sarah Dalton-Phillips and Helen Swallow. Toothpick’s quest encompasses her reflections on the body, the solar system, poetry, visual arts, “the stern patterning of music,” her learning to become a team with mate Alan HorseRadish and raising children, and her view of all individuals. The multidimensional show will evoke “the delightful roller coaster road” she and Alan have traveled in pursuit of their artistic creations.

Halloween Houses: a Children’s Workshop with Sara Myrick

Eastport Arts Center will present Halloween Houses, a children’s workshop with Sara Myrick, on Saturday, October 26 from 10:30 am-12:30 pm. Using a variety of upcycled materials, which is a passion of instructor Myrick, participants will be able to craft their own house and grounds, decorated as they choose—spooky or just autumnal. Cardboard, colored paper and tissue paper, seasonal decor and adhesives will be used to create the structures.
