"Join Poppy Balser for five days of watercolour painting in the landscape where she grew up. Explore some of Poppy's favourite painting locations through your own paintings made on location. We will be working both indoors and out of doors. Each day Poppy will demonstrate exercises designed to showcase the unique qualities of watercolours in capturing the rich maritime landscape surrounding picturesque St Andrews-by-the-Sea, New Brunswick. This workshop is offered at Sunbury Shores Arts and Nature Centre. We will have a view of the ocean from the back deck and gardens of the facility. Also, there are multiple plein air locations within easy reach of the Centre. Participants should come prepared to paint out of doors in a variety of conditions. If the weather is truly unpleasant, we will paint indoors."

Designed to take advantage of dramatic changes in weather and light during the fall season, this project-based workshop will introduce you to topics such as visual design, understanding light, developing a concept, critiquing, and more. Using the historic seaside town of St. Andrews as our base, we’ll explore the area’s dramatic tides, stunning landscapes, botanical gardens and village life in ways that will inspire and challenge you.
The week includes lectures and slide presentations, editing sessions, and individual critiques, with participants working towards developing a cohesive body of work. Time will be available for practical instruction in camera settings and photo editing, as well as discussions on black & white photography, colour theory, composition, exhibition and presentation methods, printing on fine art papers, or submitting work to galleries.
