Swallow Tail Lighthouse overlooks the entrance to North Head Harbour. First lit in 1860, the wooden tower is original, one of only a few pre-Confederation wooden lighthouses remaining in Canada. The Swallowtail Keepers Society works to restore the lighthouse property and its buildings, and provide a tribute to lightkeeping. Interpretation panels, benches, picnic tables, and decks are strategically placed throughout the property. Future programs include a “Keepers in Residence” program for interested individuals or groups to stay onsite and a working museum with tours of the lighthouse. Annual flag raising and open house, July 7th. Be sure to visit our blog regularly for news and updates.
