The St. Croix Historical Society is focused on the preservation of the history of Down East Maine, particularly the Calais community. Since 1954 it has coordinated efforts to achieve official state and federal recognition of the historical downtown district of Calais. The Society is dedicated to collecting and displaying various artifacts from the residents and cultures that have called this area home. Many of the artifacts are visible at no charge in the Holmes Cottage Museum during the summer months.
