The biggest pirate festival in New England and the Maritimes is held each year in Eastport! This year the festival runs from September 7-10 and includes returning favorites such as the Pirates of the Dark Rose and Ravenbane's Firecrafts and the Pirate Rum Barrel Relay Race.

The Eastport Arts Center’s Music for Children program is seeking young performers for a musical production of YOU CAN’T SIT HERE—A Children’s Opera, with music by Gregory Biss and script and lyrics by Catherine J.S. Lee, to be performed in October of 2023. Roles are available for young people who can portray 6th or 7th graders. This is a musical and all parts will involve singing; all experience levels are welcome to audition.

The Maine Owl Pellet Project wants you! The project is hoping to engage as many outdoors people as they can to increase the number of eyes on the lookout for owl pellets on the ground in Maine. In doing so, we can discover more about the fascinating world of owls, their prey, and the ecosystems they call home.

EAC Films will present the French film One Hundred and One Nights (1995, NR), directed by Agnès Varda, on Sunday, September 10 at 7 pm.

New York City historic tintype photographer, John DiMartino, opens his Down East tintype exhibit featuring one-of-a-kind photos printed on metal using a process popular in the mid 19th century. John has spent two years+ documenting occupations, scenery, historic buildings, and local characters in the Maritimes and coastal Maine.
All works are for sale and can be taken home immediately. Refreshments will be served. MOTHERS Gallery is delighted to announce a special exhibition, ‘Far East to Down East: Contemporary Japanese Art’, featuring the art of 16 artists from Sakai, near Osaka, Japan. The show will be from September 7-21. The artists’ work is contemporary yet created using traditional Japanese materials and methods. It is a meeting of east and west, old and new. Their means of expression include painting, drawing, sculpture, print making, mixed media, glass, and calligraphy.

Rox Corbett is an award-winning charcoal artist who makes representational drawings mostly of animals. Her pictures are detailed and textural, somewhat abstract in composition, and full of shadows and light. An important aspect to her work is conveying the behavior or spirit of the animals she depicts, sometimes in humorous ways.
The exhibit can be viewed during regular library hours. A percentage of all sales will benefit the library.
In a weekly zoom meeting we chat about art and artists, books and movies about art, art thieves and forgers plus famous and infamous art happenings past and present. This is a free event starting June 13 and continuing Tuesdays at 2 pm.

EAC’s new Game Gathering will be held every Thursday, 10 am-noon, June 15 to September 1. A fall schedule will be determined. Game Gathering attendees are invited to pick from a variety of traditional and new board and card games that will be available to choose from to play individually or with friends. EAC is pleased to announce a new class, World Dance, to meet on the second and fourth Thursday of each month, 4-5 pm, beginning April 13. The group will learn modern and classic international dances from around the globe, including Pata Pata and Jerusalem, along with line dances. Providing both a great form of exercise and an engaging new skill, the class is offered on a drop-in basis; no preregistration is necessary. A $5/class donation is appreciated.

The inaugural Fundy Film Festival, organized by Sunbury Shores, features The Art of Stewardship, three short docs created by teams of youth and seniors from Charlotte County. Working with New Brunswick film directors, Matt Brown, Lauchlan Ough, and Jeff Lively, the three teams wrote, filmed, and edited films based on global warming. This project is funded by the New Horizons Program of the Canadian Department of Employment and Social Development. The program will feature other short films that address global warming and environmental issues. Free.
