If you missed the recent performance of Barbara Toothpick and Alan HorseRadish at the Eastport Arts Center, or if you'd like a refresher, good news! The performance is now available for viewing online as EAC's most recent video release. Toothpick's original songs tell stories about events in Pembroke in the 1970s and 1980s when the couple lived in Washington County full-time: the 3rd of July dance at the old high school where the fire station is now; the fight that brought 27 cop cars into town; the dirty movies Howard Smith showed in the Sears building across the street from the couple’s home; and the Girl Scout song Toothpick wrote while HorseRadish was Scout Leader.
See the video here.
Sunbury Shores is creating a window installation for displaying local poetry! Submit your poem to info@sunburyshores.org and we will select a collection to print for the public to enjoy! If you are looking for inspiration to get going, might we suggest the following: Create short phrases in your poetry that reach out to people as they pass; comfort them, make them think, share a thought that's stuck with you; or make poems that jump into people's pockets as they carry on through their day.

Join the University of Southern Maine for this exhibition which has two locations: our Art Gallery in Gorham, Maine and our Glickman Library's 7th Floor Reading Room in Portland, Maine. With traditional hand papermaking at its core, PULPED UNDER PRESSURE underscores important contemporary issues steeped in history and craft. Enticed through touch, these works encourage a contemplative slowing down even as they urge acknowledgment of some of the most pressing issues (environmental crisis to global marginalization) facing civilization today.
This is an ongoing exhibit through December 9. The hours for the Art Gallery are 11 AM – 4:30 PM, Tuesday – Saturday. The hours for the Glickman Library are 8 AM – 4 PM, Monday – Friday.
Enter now for a chance at winning a one night getaway for two at the Rossmount Inn! The room includes a queen bed, country view, three course dinner chosen from the a la carte menu, breakfast, Grand Manan adventure ferry ticket for two plus vehicle, and a $50 Irving gift card. The draw date will be October 31.
Tickets are 1 for $10 or 3 for $20 and are available from the Library Board of Trustees or at the Grand Manan Library. Proceeds go to the library (thank you for your support). Call 506-662-7099 for more information.
