Adorn Your Door with holiday lights and magic and/or Light Up the Town, competing with your neighbors and going all out with lighting displays to brighten up the end of this 2020 season. Judging will take place on December 11th , and winners will be announced the following day on the Chamber of Commerce facebook page the following day.
Let's make St. Andrews SHINE!
Let’s light up our community and light up everyone's Spirits! There will be cash prizes of $100, $75, and $50 in each category plus some other great prizes. Criteria will include originality, home-made, lighting and anything goes. Please register by December 12 with Tessa Ftorek (853-2525) or Diana Boone (853-4884). You can also send them a Facebook message to register. Judging will take place on December 19 by members of the Coast Guard.
This event is sponsored by the Eastport Area Chamber Of Commerce, EDGE and the Eastport Parks and Recreation Committee.
From stocking stuffers to statement pieces, the members of the Eastport Gallery have created an online market just in time for the holiday gift-giving season. Joan Lowden, gallery president, says, "Our virtual gallery has something for everyone, from greeting card sets to limited edition prints to small original works, all are priced for gift giving, and shipping is available." Visit eastportgallery.com to wrap up 2020 in style.
The Eastport Gallery, Eastport ArtWalk and Eastport Elementary School are proud to present a youth bandana clothesline show and online silent auction to benefit the Eastport Schools art program.
Art teacher Sara Myrick said that the participants, from 3rd to 8th grades, loved the project and are excited for the opportunity to show their work in an art gallery. Students focused on symmetry, pattern, color and craftsmanship when creating their unique, hand painted bandanas. Because the bandanas will be auctioned via Facebook, students also considered style trends, consumption patterns and market appeal when creating their artwork for public auction.
Bandanas are currently on display in the windows of the Eastport Gallery at 109 Water St. The silent auction, with photos of individual bandanas, is LIVE on Facebook – bidding closes Saturday December 12 at midnight. To view bandanas and bid online, simply visit the Facebook auction page (LINK) and make your bids as comments on each bandana post. The winning bidders will be the final comment on each post on December 12 and winners will be contacted the next day with purchase instructions. These bandanas make the perfect holiday gifts for aunts, uncles and grandparents and ALL proceeds benefit the Eastport school arts program!

EAC’s ‘Festival of Ornaments,’ a trio of Zoom-based workshops for all ages, is being offered in the spirit of the center’s annual Festival of Trees, with deluxe materials kits available for participants, or detailed information available for those who’ll use their own materials from home.
Second in the workshop series is Ann Cannizzaro’s session on Scandinavian Star Ornaments, Sunday, December 6 at 2 pm. Ann’s traditional ornaments are crafted using cut cane and red embroidery floss around a clever cardboard loom.
Please note that while the activities are designed for participants of all ages, younger children will need an adult helper.
Materials kits (limited, and assembled with all Covid-19 precautions) are available from EAC: kits are $10 each, or with registration for all three of the sessions, participants pay $25 for all three kits. Registration deadline for each workshop is the Friday prior; materials pickup will take place the Saturday prior to each session from 11 am-noon at EAC. Those who’ll participate in all 3 workshop sessions may pick up all of their kits at once, on Saturday, November 28 from 11 am-noon.
Registrations should be made by email to Alison Brennan, EAC Education & Outreach Coordinator, at alison@eastportartscenter.org; Alison can also work with those interested in materials pickup arrangements in Calais and Baring.
EAC is proud to announce the launch of Downeast Digital Zine Club, a program for Washington County teenagers that focuses on the production of a monthly publication. Young artists of all disciplines and skill levels are encouraged to participate. The club meets via Zoom with instructor, Mark Macey, Wednesdays from 3:30-5:00 pm.
