Art Show at The Lubec Memorial Library
Paintings by Robin Rier
Displayed October 5th through December 3, 2020.
The Eastport Gallery, Eastport ArtWalk and Eastport Elementary School are proud to present a youth bandana clothesline show and online silent auction to benefit the Eastport Schools art program.
Art teacher Sara Myrick said that the participants, from 3rd to 8th grades, loved the project and are excited for the opportunity to show their work in an art gallery. Students focused on symmetry, pattern, color and craftsmanship when creating their unique, hand painted bandanas. Because the bandanas will be auctioned via Facebook, students also considered style trends, consumption patterns and market appeal when creating their artwork for public auction.
Bandanas are currently on display in the windows of the Eastport Gallery at 109 Water St. The silent auction, with photos of individual bandanas, is LIVE on Facebook – bidding closes Saturday December 12 at midnight. To view bandanas and bid online, simply visit the Facebook auction page (LINK) and make your bids as comments on each bandana post. The winning bidders will be the final comment on each post on December 12 and winners will be contacted the next day with purchase instructions. These bandanas make the perfect holiday gifts for aunts, uncles and grandparents and ALL proceeds benefit the Eastport school arts program!

EAC’s ‘Festival of Ornaments,’ a trio of Zoom-based workshops for all ages, is being offered in the spirit of the center’s annual Festival of Trees, with deluxe materials kits available for participants, or detailed information available for those who’ll use their own materials from home.
First in the series will be Sara Myrick’s session on Sunday, November 29, at 2 pm. Sara will engage attendees in making a Tassel Tree Garland. The tassel trees featured on the simple and versatile 6-foot garland are in themselves a charming ornament, gift-topper, keychain, etc. In the garland project, they’ll be combined with wooden beads; crafters are encouraged to bring their own embellishments to the project to personalize the handmade decor.
Please note that while the activities are designed for participants of all ages, younger children will need an adult helper.
Materials kits (limited, and assembled with all Covid-19 precautions) are available from EAC: kits are $10 each, or with registration for all three of the sessions, participants pay $25 for all three kits. Registration deadline for each workshop is the Friday prior; materials pickup will take place the Saturday prior to each session from 11 am-noon at EAC. Those who’ll participate in all 3 workshop sessions may pick up all of their kits at once, on Saturday, November 28 from 11 am-noon.
Registrations should be made by email to Alison Brennan, EAC Education & Outreach Coordinator, at alison@eastportartscenter.org; Alison can also work with those interested in materials pickup arrangements in Calais and Baring.
The UNB Saint John faculty of arts is pleased to partner with St. Stephen's University to present a virtual screening of the documentary film 'Voices from the Barrens: Native People, Blueberries and Sovereignty'. This event is being hosted via Microsoft Teams and is open to all members of the UNB and SSU communities, as well as the general public. No registration required.
Access the virtual live event via the facebook event page.
