BACK TO LISTINGThe Sunday Afternoons at the EAC series, a winter offering of informal and interactive programs every Sunday at 3 pm at Eastport Arts Center, continues on February 16, when Jeanne Katkavich, with service dog Sadi, will present on Training (and Importance of Training) Service Dogs. The duo will share demonstrations and information on several topics. Some subjects will be: What is a service dog? Can I train my own dog? What do I do when I approach a person with a service dog? What are the Federal and Maine laws? Katkavich will provide handouts and links for additional information online, and is enthusiastic about answering attendees’ questions.
This is the second of FOUR sessions provided by The Eastern Maine CA$H Coalition at Peavey Library for low to mid-income individuals to seek assistance with filing their taxes. Taxes will be prepared off-site by IRS certified tax preparers. Volunteers will be available to assist with intake on Monday, February 17, from 2:00-7:00 pm (with pick-up for completed taxes on Monday, February 24, from 2:00-5:00 pm)
Clients must call the library to make an appointment, and need to bring all required materials with them. A maximum of 30 minutes is allotted per person, so it is necessary to have your paperwork in order prior to arriving for your appointment. Come split your sides at Stage East’s LAUGH LAB at the Eastport Arts Center, resuming on January 14, 6:30-8 pm, and continuing weekly on Tuesdays. Island Institute fellow Mark Macey leads this recurring class which incorporate improv, sketch comedy, and clowning. Participants will work to develop a sense of ease and play on stage while sharpening their comedic sensibilities. Eastport Arts Center’s Life Drawing workshop, led by Anne Shields Hopkins, resumes with a session on Wednesday, January 22 from 4-6 pm. Subsequently, the group will meet on the first and third Wednesday of each month, 4-6 pm, though April. The workshop aims to create an engaging space where artists novice to experienced can relax, focus and create together. “We always have snacks, a warm space and open attitudes,” noted Hopkins. “Models are nude and professional, occasionally a costume is added for dramatic flair! Artists are clothed and respectful.
"Dear Elizabeth" chronicles the remarkable 30-year friendship between poets Robert Lowell and Elizabeth Bishop, using their letters to tell the story of friendship and intimacy that existed predominantly on paper. The play is produced in the intimate setting of the Shead Theater, with limited seating for a close theater experience.

Our popular “Archives Road Show” series held in 11 communities last year, energetically led by Lee Sochasky, will culminate in the “Charlotte County Heritage Fair” to be held Feb 22 at the Garcelon Civic Center in St Stephen from 9.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. This full-day event will: Showcase the activities of groups and individuals (museums, archives, genealogist, Facebook groups, and more) that are currently saving and sharing Charlotte County’s heritage; Provide practical workshops geared toward their needs and interests; Explore ways to collaborate, for mutual benefit; and Increase public awareness of Charlotte County heritage activities and show how to get involved.
Eastport Arts Center’s Children’s Theater Workshop (CTW) will begin a new session on Saturday, January 11. The group will meet from 10-11:30 am, and be held weekly on Saturdays. Led by Mark Macey with assistance from Chris Grannis, the group will introduce young people to theater arts, including an array of theater games and exercises. The group will discuss interest in a possible production for this spring at EAC. CTW is free for participants, and open to children aged 7 to 17. Children younger than age 7 should be accompanied by an adult caregiver.
