BACK TO LISTINGA new video series, Artist to Artist, produced by gallery member Jude Kempe, will be featured on the Eastport Gallery website. Kempe says “The series idea came about because as an artist myself I am interested in asking fellow artists questions like, ‘Why do we make art? Why did we choose to be artists? What are our influences?’” The series will feature in-studio chats, interviews and discussions between artists who have been drawn to the Eastport area for many years and for many different reasons.
The first video features part one of Kempe’s in-studio chat with sculptor and founding Eastport Gallery member, Elizabeth Ostrander. Links to this series and all Eastport Gallery shows and events may be accessed at https://www.eastportgallery.com/.

Printmaking:
A wonderful opportunity to learn the fascinating world of printmaking. Whether it’s all-new, or you have the experience, we are offering Sunday afternoon open studio time to work on your own projects in the company of experienced and highly acclaimed printmakers. Alanna Baird and/or Ann Manuel will be on hand to advise, encourage and assist. Each month’s block of 4 sessions will be a look at a different technique of printmaking.
These sessions in our beautiful and bright renovated print studio will be relaxed and welcoming. Whether you want to produce your own cards, limited edition artworks, or simply learn new skills and express your creativity, this is the place to be!
Pottery:
This Social Sunday is an open studio where you can mingle, share ideas, and work on your independent projects. An experienced ceramicist, Travis Melanson, is our studio technician. The first week will include a short tutorial to introduce you to the studio and the materials available for you to use. The requirement is that you have basic knowledge of throwing pottery or some experience in working with clay.
You can be a beginner with basic knowledge or an experienced artist. Each Studio Social has appointed an experienced artist as a studio technician to help you with equipment, answer questions about our studios and materials will be available to you.
The Lubec Memorial Library Student Art Exhibit has some new additions on display. We are open
Monday - Wednesday, 10 to 4
Friday - Saturday, 10 to 2
Come and practice a hobby or learn something new – have fun and be creative! This program at SSANC is aimed at providing a relaxed social opportunity to Seniors in our community – a chance to explore and share arts knowledge and skills. Materials will be provided where required. Informal instruction with an experienced facilitator will be offered to provide the chance to explore new media and work on small projects. We encourage participants to work on their own projects, help each other with shared skills and social interaction.
Each 4-week block will look at different media, including pottery, painting, printing, stained glass, photography and more.
SSANC provides the studio space (with safe social distancing), basic materials and experienced instructors. Come and learn something new – or revisit a former hobby. These classes are designed to be flexible and responsive to students’ needs and preferences and can evolve as they go.
With thanks to funding from the ESDC New Horizons for Seniors grants program.

Machias Adult Ed Readers' Theater students will research ideas, choose a script, then read, analyze and discuss it in order to create an entirely remote performance piece using the Zoom Platform.
We'll use presentation, digital music, image and sound manipulation software to achiece "speial effects" as students read their parts with scripts at-hand so there will be NO MEMORIZATION and no in-person meetings.
Students will gain the practical experience necessary to function as a member of a production team, learn to appreciate the collaborative nature of such work, the protocols of the professional theater and how to improve communication and organizational skills.

In this session, Betsey N. Brown-Benner of Maine Fae Art will be telling the story of the development and opening of her small, commission art business.
Betsey is a 21-year-old woman from Downeast Maine. From a young age, Betsey was exposed to the arts and it became her passion. In her adult life, she believed there was a need to support niche art and pursued her dream of starting her own side business. When asked “What is it about your art that makes you want to take this approach,” she responds, “It allows it to be more personal. My personal art isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, however, if I can create a commission that someone loves and that is centered around their ideas, I am happy. That happiness is something I am determined to share.”
Join multi-talented artist Alanna Baird for this evening class in linoleum block printmaking. In this four-week course, students will be designing, carving, and printing their own linocut prints! We recommend students begin planning a 5″x 7″ design in advance of the course. Materials Required by Students: PPE (face masks)
