The public is invited to assemble teams of one to five members and compete in a county-wide scavenger hunt. All ages are welcome to participate. In this session fierce debate will ensue! Topics like cats vs. dogs, best ice cream flavors, and weirdest siblings will provide fodder for these short scenes written by participants with help from instructor, Mark Macey.
A performance will take place after the final session, at 1 pm, February 11. The group will meet at EAC (36 Washington Street); registration is available at stageeast.org/register. The Community Caring Collaborative's Work Group meets with Poverty Busters on Zoom from 1:00-3:00 pm on the first Wednesday of each month. Work Group members are direct service workers, volunteers and agency admins who come together to share resources, support each other and brainstorm solutions to community needs. Poverty Busters are low-income community members, partners from agencies, and other community members working on grassroots strategies to increase poverty awareness locally and to remove the barriers that poverty creates. Both groups are now meeting together to improve communication and to ensure that the CCC is effective in helping to change outcomes for those it serves. Parents, service providers and other community members are welcome!

In this two-session workshop (January 4 and 18), author Penny Guisinger will provide tools and approaches to revising prose (fiction or nonfiction). We’ll talk about bringing a cold eye to the page, looking for unnecessary words, and mining an early draft for those gems that emerge as the heart of a finished piece. In an open process of sharing and feedback, participants will shape drafts into more polished manuscripts.

Li'l Bookworms is a weekly story time created for children ages 0-4 held each Thursday at 10 am at Pembroke Library. Youngsters will listen to children's librarian Miss Bonnie (Hunter) read books, learn fun songs, explore simple art activities and enjoy playtime with other children.
Children must be accompanied by caregivers.
Join Cobscook Institute for a hands-on workshop to learn the basics of food preservation with a focus on boiling water bath canning. Participants will receive a booklet with recipes and helpful information on canning as well as their own jar of applesauce.

In addition to our very successful annual summer Used Book Sale, Pembroke Library has now opened a Used Book Shop on the second floor of the library that will be open weekly! Opening day will begin on October 1 and continue every Saturday morning. Genres include action, adventure, mystery, suspense, romance, non-fiction, crafts, children, and more. Additional books will be added as they become available.
Prices are $1 for hard covers and 50 cents for paperbacks.
Over three sessions, writers will work on drafting a lengthy and vital business document. You’ll study, craft and workshop the most important elements in the query and proposal, and will come away all the more ready to pitch their projects. Though proposals are most commonly used in pitching nonfiction, writers of fiction are welcome to register. Your manuscript need not be completed in order to write a proposal or to take this workshop.

EAC’s popular Sunday Afternoons at the Arts Center returns this winter with a lively lineup of performances and talks running weekly from January 8 to April 30 (skipping Easter Sunday). The series will begin with a talk by Passamaquoddy Historical Preservation Officer Donald Soctomah, on Tribal Place Names Around Passamaquoddy Bay.

The Machias Arts Council is offering a solution for the “winter doldrums” in its first-ever Snow and Ice Sculpture Contest, running January 3 through March 1. Applicants of all ages who are residents of Washington County may participate with up to two entries per contestant.
To participate, when snow falls, entrants create their own original snow and/or ice sculpture in their yard, take a high quality color photo of their sculpture and submit one photo only of it to the Machias Arts Council by March 1 to MACSnowSculpture@gmail.com. If you live in the Robbinston area and have an interest in ATV recreation, the Robbinston Bushwackers ATV Club invites you to its monthly meetings every second Wednesday. The meetings are held at the Robbinston Fire Station (886 US Route 1) or the Robbinston Town Office (904 US Route 1) at 6:30 pm.

Li'l Bookworms is a weekly story time created for children ages 0-4 held each Thursday at 10 am at Pembroke Library. Youngsters will listen to children's librarian Miss Bonnie (Hunter) read books, learn fun songs, explore simple art activities and enjoy playtime with other children.
Children must be accompanied by caregivers.
