Downeast Lakes Land Trust is turning all of Grand Lake Stream red, white, and blue with a jam-packed weekend of fun events from July 1 through the 4. All weekend long, take part in the Independence Scavenger Hunt on the Goose Chase app, come for the boat race on July 2, or try out some tubing on July 4!

The largest Fourth of July celebration in Maine is upon us! Eastport's Old Home Week has a host of events for families and people of all ages to enjoy. There will be an ongoing craft and vendor fair, athletic contests, concerts, a hypnotist, the fireman's muster, parades, and more!

A Summer Arts Camp will be offered for students ages 6-13, on July 11, 12, 14 and 15, 9:30 am-noon each day, at Eastport Arts Center. Instructors Sara Myrick, art, and L. Elwood, movement, will base activities on a ‘Kindness to Our Environment’ theme.
Arts Camp fee is $10/day per student, or $35 for all four days; snacks and all art materials are included. A sliding fee scale is available by request. Pre-registration is required; please email Alison Brennan at email@example.com. Space is very limited, so please register early to save a place. Eastport Arts Center is handicapped-accessible and abides by State of Maine CDC COVID guidelines. Come to Grand Manan Gallery from June 26 to July 15 to see the works of Janice O'Neill (exhibit: "On the Edge - Bay of Fundy Moments"), David McDonald (painting), and Melanie Craig-Hansford (exhibit: "What My Eyes Can Hold") in this three artist exhibit. Youth between the ages of 8-12 are invited to participate in summer camps (beginning with Art, History, and Nature from July 11-15) organized by the St. Andrews Youth Centre. The camps run Monday through Friday, 1-4 pm.

Kids 12 and under are invited to join in the fun at the annual Fourth of July Kids Games in Calais on July 4 from 8 to 11 am. There will be bike races, sack races, an egg toss, soda drinking contest, watermelon eating contest, and more!

On Saturday, July 23rd, DLLT is pleased to welcome mushroom expert Greg Marley back to Grand Lake Stream. Always a community favorite, Greg will lead a day-long workshop to discover all of the edible, medicinal, and cultural wonders of mushrooms! Meet at the Grand Lake Stream School Building at 9:30 am – the first half of the class will be held indoors, presenting varieties and foraging techniques, and the second half of the program will be an interactive walk in the Community Forest, with hands-on identification lessons. Participants should bring their own lunch and drinks, and dress for the outdoors.

Want to show off your culinary skills? Sign up to be a contestant in the Downeastah Flavah Cook-off today. Participation is free - just provide 100 samples of your dish for tasting! This event will be held on August 6 from 4-6 pm at the Community of Christ Church in Jonesport. Categories include appetizers, side dishes, soups, main dishes, desserts, and more. Prizes will be awarded.

CMHA of New Brunswick is excited to host our 4th annual Art In Mind exhibit at Sunbury Shores Arts and Nature Centre from November 10-19 and are accepting submissions by August 18.

Dastardly Dick’s Wicked Good Coffee in Eastport is excited to display and sell the paintings of Dominic Noe. Aside from being an active artist in the local scene, Noe frequently volunteered at Stage East on and off stage and sat on the organization’s board from 2004-2008. A celebration of Noe’s life and work, the sale is currently on view and will run through the summer season. Proceeds will be donated to Stage East.
