Irish Mythen at The Dunn Theatre

PEI Songwriter and performer Irish Mythen will play an intimate show at the Dunn Theatre on Friday, September 23. Irish was born in Ireland and now resides in Charlottetown Prince Edward Island Canada. Her latest release, Little Bones, gained her recognition around the globe, including a 2020 JUNO nomination for Contemporary Roots Album of the Year, seven Music PEI 2020 nominations and two wins.

The Pembroke American Legion is hosting a fair to benefit local Veterans on September 24 from 10 am to 4 pm. There will be a huge Chinese raffle, 50/50, bake sale, and two colossal lottery trees with over $300 in tickets on each.

The funds raised from this event will go to helping with heating costs for area Veterans.

We are inviting men and women who would like to join us at The Pottle Tree Farm, 507 South Meadow Road in Perry on Saturday September 24th at 12 noon to walk through the fields through the wood and walk the labyrinth. After we will return to the picnic tables and break bread with a potluck meal and a camp fire.

Please dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes as the entire event will take place outside. Bring your drum or your rattle so that we can drum and chant if we wish and food to share.

‘Dark Appalachian Folk’ Act to Appear at EAC

Eastport Arts Center is thrilled to host The Resonant Rogues in concert, Saturday, September 24 at 7 pm. The group’s dark Appalachian folk paints a picture of their lives in the mountains of Western North Carolina and on the road. Tickets for the show are $15, attendees 17 and under will be admitted free of charge; they may be purchased at the door or via the EAC site.

EAC .org is handicapped-accessible and abides by the State of Maine CDC COVID guidelines. Additionally, at this time, the EAC recommends that people wear masks when in our building.

Pulped Under Pressure

Join the University of Southern Maine for this exhibition which has two locations: our Art Gallery in Gorham, Maine and our Glickman Library's 7th Floor Reading Room in Portland, Maine. With traditional hand papermaking at its core, PULPED UNDER PRESSURE underscores important contemporary issues steeped in history and craft. Enticed through touch, these works encourage a contemplative slowing down even as they urge acknowledgment of some of the most pressing issues (environmental crisis to global marginalization) facing civilization today.

This is an ongoing exhibit through December 9. The hours for the Art Gallery are 11 AM – 4:30 PM, Tuesday – Saturday. The hours for the Glickman Library are 8 AM – 4 PM, Monday – Friday.

The Little K Gallery in Eastport will have a “Fairy Garden” to explore on their lot at 76 High Street from July 22 - September 5, weather permitting. Adults and children will enjoy finding the little fairy picnic, a fairy house, fairy cafe, and other miniatures. While visiting, browse art in the little gallery and if you see something you like inside the box, take it! It’s free! (but leave the fairy scenes until September for others to enjoy first). Please feel inspired to bring any of your own little creations to the garden or gallery box too.

Bob McCollum, founder and Director of the Roque Bluffs Art Gallery and Learning Center, will be giving a presentation at the Gates House Museum, lower level, on September 26, following a brief September monthly meeting of the Historical Society. He will lead us in a mini class on “How To Find Your Photographer’s Eye”. Bob’s background includes not only a passion for and talent in the visual arts, but a career packed with service in the military, in the field of education, and in the community.
