Garden Potlucks
Come to the Cobscook Institute on Fridays starting July 8 for Garden Potlucks from 10 am to 1 pm! Host Annie Hopkins will guide the group through a gardening session and answer questions as they come up with the group. Each week the gardening session will culminate in a shared meal.

Join the Cobscook Institute in celebration of the artists and craftspeople of our campus. With pyrography, ceramic, paintings and drawings there is something for everyone. Stop by for our opening on July 1 from 4-6 pm to kick off your weekend!
All year-round our Pottery Studio hosts an incredible assortment of artists and craftspeople in their creative process and this June our Project Room has been bustling with creativity. This exhibit is a moment to pause and enjoy all the creativity on our campus.

Sunbury Shores will be holding a group exhibition titled Maritime Colours (incorporating natural pigments; the colours of Tatamagouche, NS are shown) from July 22 through August 13. The featured artists are Renata Britez, Sara Jones, Christianna Myers, Jennifer Pazienza, Ralph Simpson, and Danika Vautour.
The opening reception will be July 22 from 5-7 pm.

Join TIMA for an opening reception for Salvaged Script, an exhibition of contemporary work by Canadian artist Charley Young. Born in Calgary, Alberta, Charley Young is an interdisciplinary artist working primarily with drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and public installation. Her artwork focuses on indexical modes of working and explores themes of trace and ephemerality in the creation of site-specific and socially engaged installations.
The opening reception will be July 22, 5-7 pm.

Done Roving Yarns in Calais (487 North Street) holds a weekly knitting circle on Fridays from 1:00 to 3:00. Host Paula Graham Farrar leads the group.

The St. George Royal Canadian Branch 38 holds weekly events and the community is invited. On Monday, TOPS is held at 6:00 pm; contact Jimmy at 755-6042 for Cribbage Monday Nights. On Tuesdays, doors open for BINGO at 5:00 pm; early bird game starts at 6:30 and the regular game is on at 7:00. Every Friday night is Seniors Cards party, call Jimmy for more info.

Social tennis will begin at the St. Andrews Public Tennis Courts on June 1 at 6:00 pm for two hours (continuing daily through September 3). Membership is not required to join in. All are welcome, players will be matched on arrival. This is non-competitive, social/fun tennis and all are welcome. Come out, have fun and perhaps even join the club for the more activities offered.

Find out more »Perry Congregational Church Bicentennial: Kevin Birch in concert
An organ concert of 200 years of American music will be presented by Kevin Birch on the David Wallace organ at the Perry Congregational Church, on Friday August 12, at 6 pm. Works include Aaron Copeland's Fanfare for the Common Man, and compositions by Dudley Buck, Arthur Foote, and Carson Cooman.
This is the second in a series of free summer concerts celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Perry Church. A free will offering will be received.

EAC’s Concert Series continues at 7 pm, Friday, August 12 with popular returning performer, Tim Pence, guitar. Pence will perform works by Anton Diabelli, Napoleon Coste, Jacques Cerf, Augustin Barrios as well as selections from his own project, The Ultra-Praxis. To see upcoming performers, click here.
Concert Series tickets are $15; attendees 17 and under are free of charge. EAC is handicapped-accessible and abides by State of Maine CDC COVID guidelines. Additionally, at this time, the EAC recommends that people wear masks when in our building.

Sunbury Shores is creating a window installation for displaying local poetry! Submit your poem to info@sunburyshores.org and we will select a collection to print for the public to enjoy! If you are looking for inspiration to get going, might we suggest the following: Create short phrases in your poetry that reach out to people as they pass; comfort them, make them think, share a thought that's stuck with you; or make poems that jump into people's pockets as they carry on through their day.

Head to Roque Bluffs on August 13 for a fun day at the park! There will be cornhole and horseshoe games for adults, while kids get to compete in three legged races, sack races, games, and more! Hot dogs and hamburgers will be on hand for lunch time. A bagpiper will arrive at 1 pm and a guitar player around 2 pm. This event benefits the Machias Food Pantry.

The Downeast Lakes 5-Miler is back! The course covers 5 miles of terrain spread across single track and double track trails. Enjoy one of our more remote races where amazing views, isolation, and virgin trails combine to offer one of Maine’s best kept secrets.

Head to the Sir James Dunn Academy (180 King Street) on August 13-14 for the New Brunswick Woodcarving Competition and Sale. There will be a large selection of carvings to see, along with live demonstrations. Carving supplies will be available for sale.
On Saturday, August 13, the event runs from 12-5 pm; on Sunday, it runs from 10 am-3 pm. If you'd like to compete in this competition, online pre-registration is open until August 8.
