Summer Workshop Series: Decoupage Shell Dishes with Sue Riddle

Eastport Arts Center (EAC) 36 Washington Street, Eastport

Eastport Arts Center’s Summer Workshop Series continues August 10 with Sue Riddle’s Decoupage Shell Craft, 1:30-3:30 pm. Participants will use decoupage techniques on scallop shells to create one-of-a-kind dishes for holding small treasures (such as jewelry, while one bathes or cleans). Decoupage is a time-honored art form in which paper cutouts are affixed to a surface using layers of clear adhesive. For the shell project, Riddle will share a collection of printed paper napkins from which images may be clipped. "Who knew how gorgeous the lowly paper napkin could be?" enthused Riddle, who noted that the napkin paper is just the right weight to be flexible enough to adhere to the rounded (concave) shell surface. "With such a variety of design options, these materials make for a great little project."
Sue Riddle is originally from San Francisco, but family ties to New Hampshire brought her to the East Coast, and marriage landed her in Downeast Maine. She has a lifelong love of nature, crafts, books and graphic novels. She lives with four cats, a dog, 12 Lavender Orpington chickens, Big Red the Rooster, ... and “a very patient husband.”
Workshop is for ages 12 and up. Spaces are limited; participants must register with Alison Brennan at alison@eastportartscenter.org. The $15 fee includes all materials. Support for this workshop has been provided by Belvedere Traditional Handcrafts Fund of the Maine Community Foundation. A sliding fee scale is available by request.
