Community Rally – We Want a Junior “A” Hockey Team

Join us for this community rally so we call see all the members of the community who will support a team and have a group of community leaders and investors answer any questions about the potential for a team.

Zen DownEast, a welcoming group of meditation practitioners,
 meets Tuesdays from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Downeast Massage Therapy building at 848 U.S. Rte 1, Pembroke, ME.  The one-hour meetings include Zen meditation, Zen liturgy, and meditation
 instruction. We also offer drop-in classes on the writings of Zen Master Eihei Dogen from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm which you are warmly invited to join at any time.  If you are new to Zen DownEast, please arrive fifteen minutes early for a brief orientation. Zen DownEast is committed to creating an inclusive sangha and strives to embody the ideals of mutuality and  interdependence. Eastport Arts Center’s weekly Life Drawing Workshop will resume Wednesday, September 18 at 7 pm, and will meet weekly from 7-9 pm Wednesdays through November 6. The group, which will work from a live model, will be led by Anne Shields Hopkins, a frequent participant in past sessions of the workshop. Hopkins was raised in the salty North Atlantic and was trained at the Pratt Institute. They are a maker, mother, organizer and fire builder, and have become known for bringing a flair for dramatic play to the weekly community art gatherings. Participants, who may work in any medium of their choice, should expect movement, openings, quiet moments and excitement in the workshop’s self-guided 2 hours of creation. Participation fee will be $10/session, or $60 for the full 8 weeks.

Tiny Yogis sessions led by Caroline DiLio will resume for an 8-week session beginning September 19; the  program, which is part of EAC's KinderArts offerings, is intended for children up to age 5. The group will meet from 9:30-10:15 am on Thursday mornings through November 7. DiLio will teach attendees yoga through music, dance and storybooks, and young participants will even learn meditation. Owner of Maine Moon Kids Yoga, DiLio is a certified children's yoga teacher and a mother of three. She takes a creative approach to teaching children, including games, crafts and sometimes even Minecraft poses! KinderArts programs are free of charge. Participants must come with a parent or caregiver. The program's goal is to encourage young children to explore the visual and performing arts in a secure and social environment through hands-on experiences. The 41st Annual Perry Harvest Fair sponsored by the Perry Recreation Committee will be held on Sat., Oct. 5th at the Perry Municipal Bldg on Route 1 in Perry from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.  The Sunrise County Farmers Market will be in attendance with many offerings of fresh vegetables and preserves.  Activities for the children include the build a scarecrow activity, cupcake decorating and a bounce tent.  Entertainment will be provided throughout the day along with arts and craft vendors, food vendors and a chinese raffle.  Plan to come and enjoy the day!  For further information contact Debbie Owen at 853-2853.

Bad Little Trail Run

Downeast Coastal Conservancy, in partnership with the Bold Coast Runners, will hold their annual Bad Little Trail Run on Saturday, October 5th, 2019. Race day registration and check-in starts at 8am and races begin at 10am. Both races start and end in Whitneyville, followed by post-race drinks, food (pot luck), awards ceremony and general celebration complete with fire pit. Please bring a food item to share as well as your own cup, plate and spoon (and folding chair if you like) - as a conservancy, we want to reduce waste and put our resources into conservation!

The Huntsman Marine Science Centre would like to celebrate their 50th Anniversary with you on the ocean floor. Join us on Saturday, October 5th at 10 am for our marine BioBlitz! We will meet at the Bath House on Ministers Island where we will record all species in the intertidal zone and obtain an overall count of organisms that live in the area. At 2 pm the celebration will continue at the Fundy Discovery Aquarium, where our BioBlitz partners in conversation will engage participants with interesting and informative displays. Eastport Arts Center will present two performances of God Help Us! starring Ed Asner alongside four local cast members, on Saturday, October 12 at 7 pm and Sunday, October 13 at 3 pm. By turns hilarious and thought-provoking, the political comedy places Asner—as God!—as the referee between two pundits, Larry (a liberal lad played by Peter Frewen) and Randi (a conservative gal played by Jenie Smith), former lovers who were torn apart by their mismatched politics and inability to disagree without being disagreeable.
