Eastport Fourth of July and Old Home Week!

The largest Fourth of July celebration in Maine is upon us! Eastport's Old Home Week has a host of events for families and people of all ages to enjoy. There will be an ongoing craft and vendor fair, athletic contests, concerts, a hypnotist, the fireman's muster, parades, and more!

A Summer Arts Camp will be offered for students ages 6-13, on July 11, 12, 14 and 15, 9:30 am-noon each day, at Eastport Arts Center. Instructors Sara Myrick, art, and L. Elwood, movement, will base activities on a ‘Kindness to Our Environment’ theme.

Arts Camp fee is $10/day per student, or $35 for all four days; snacks and all art materials are included. A sliding fee scale is available by request. Pre-registration is required; please email Alison Brennan at alison@eastportartscenter.org. Space is very limited, so please register early to save a place. Eastport Arts Center is handicapped-accessible and abides by State of Maine CDC COVID guidelines. Additionally, at this time, patrons are required to wear masks when in the EAC building.

Do you or someone you know benefit from art as a recovery/support tool for mental health/illness? Please share your art with us! (You do not have to be a professional/expert!) CMHA of New Brunswick is excited to host our 4th annual Art In Mind exhibit at Sunbury Shores Arts and Nature Centre from November 10-19 and are accepting submissions by August 18.

Up to three original pieces can be submitted (as photographs or digital images of your work). Applications must include a brief (100 word) artist statement about how the creative process improves your well-being. Applications or questions should be sent to lisa.cheney@gnb.ca.

Eastport Gallery members Helena Bosse and Barbara Moskol will have their works on display in a show titled “Inspirations from Land and Sea” from Sunday, July 3 through Saturday, July 16. Helena’s paintings reflecting her love of flowers and local landscapes are a perfect complement to Barbara’s works in clay that showcase the colors of the ever-changing sea and often incorporate Eastport sea glass into the glazing process.

EAC Workshop Series Continues with Mosaic Craft

EAC’s Summer Workshop Series continues with Meri Fern’s Upcycled Mosaic Frames on Tuesday, July 5 from 1:30-3:30 pm. Participants will use collected sea treasures and upcycled finds, incorporating favorite items brought from home if they wish, to make a mosaic frame to display.

This $20 session is intended for ages 12 and up; a sliding fee scale is available by request. Pre-registration is required; please email Alison Brennan. Please register early to save a place. During this 4 day workshop with Ruth Dunfield running from July 21-24, you will explore the endless possibilities of colour and shapes that are achievable working with stained glass.
