The 2023 “DLLT Photo Contest” has officially begun! With its varied landscapes, abundant wildlife, local traditions, and colorful characters, there are many different subjects to be captured and immortalized on film. Show us your best photographs of the area! Rules and guidelines for the DLLT Photo Contest are listed below. All photos must be submitted by emailing photo@downeastlakes.org.
Grand Manan Museum is calling area artists to submit their sea-themed artwork for a juried exhibition from June 12 to July 29.
Up to four pieces can be submitted. Send to mjedwards454@gmail.com by May 1.
Cobscook Institute offers open studio pottery time for $10 an hour for past pottery students and anyone with basic clay experience.
You can sign up for a time slot using this form. If you haven't used the studio before, you'll be required to complete a studio orientation. For help, contact Michelle Cousineau at 207-255-7246 or email michelle@cobscookinstitute.org.
TIMA is introducing the first of a series of hands-on learning activity kits based on an object or subject from our collections or exhibitions. The first activity kit is inspired by hand-painted porcelain china, which originated in England during the mid-Victorian era.
All hands-on learning activity kits will also be available to read as a PDF online or download from our website. Activities are designed to be done with supplies that are easy to find or may already be at home and include background information as well as detailed instructions.
There will be two scrapbooking workshops at the Hub in the coming week - one on March 29 from 10 am to noon for all occasion cards (5 cards, $25 registration) and one on April 3 from 10 am to noon for Easter cards (5 cards, $25 registration).

Done Roving Yarns in Calais (487 North Street) holds a weekly knitting circle on Fridays from 1:00 to 3:00. Host Paula Graham Farrar leads the group.

Eastport Arts Center will offer a Clay Tile Workshop with Marlys Farn-Guillette on Saturday, April 1, from 1-4 pm. Participants will be guided through the process of hand building a clay tile, to be presented as a wall hanging or a free standing piece. The workshop is for ages 12 and up. Space is limited. A $20 fee covers all materials. A sliding fee scale (pay what you can) is available by request. To sign up, or with any questions about the workshop, please email alison@eastportartscenter.org.

A writers’ group for people seeking help and constructive input on their in-progress work is scheduled to kick off Monday, February 6, at the Eastport Arts Center. The group, led by published author Catherine J.S. Lee and retired writing teacher Paula Horvath, will meet every other Monday beginning at 6:30 pm at the Center for about two hours. Suggested donation of $5/session; sliding fee scale is available by request (no one turned away). Sunbury Shores is pleased to announce an ongoing online writing group that will be meeting the second and fourth Tuesday of each month via Zoom. On the second Tuesday of each month, the group will meet from 10:00 to 11:30 am; on the fourth Tuesday, it will meet from 7:00 to 8:30 pm.
