Festive Fundraiser Encourages Ornament-Makers to Begin Collecting Materials

EAC's 13th Annual Festival of Trees will be held on Saturday, December 10. Community members are encouraged to begin gathering materials to create ornaments for trees for the festival, as part of pleasant summer excursions by the sea and in the woods. Pinecones, wildflowers, fanciful twigs, pine needles, dried fruits, feathers, seed pods and other natural objects all are possibilities for one-of-a-kind decorations.

Maine Gardener Training

The Maine Gardener Training is designed to supply learners with a foundation in horticulture education and skills for use in their personal garden and is recommended for those who would like to access the educational content of the Master Gardener Volunteer training program but are not interested or able to volunteer.

Yoga for Self Care & 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Programs

Samantha Williams, E-RYT 500 and owner of Bold Coast Yoga, will offer two yoga programs, a 200-hour yoga teacher training course and a Yoga for Self-Care Support program, beginning October 1 via Zoom and at Cobscook Institute in Trescott. The 200-hour training program, now in its sixth year, is for those who want to learn more about yoga, or want to become yoga teachers, while the Yoga for Self Care Support program is for those who want to start a regular yoga practice, or enrich their self care practices.

Introduction to Marine Biodiversity

Students between 15-18 are encouraged to apply for this Introduction to Marine Biodiversity course running October 2-7 from Ocean S.T.E.A.M. The first part of the course will concentrate on collecting, observing, identifying and classifying diversity of local invertebrates and taking environmental measurements. The second part of the course will ask students to pull the basic information together to get a better understanding of which animals live where and why.

EAC to Offer Free Workshop for Children

Eastport Arts Center will present Halloween Houses, a free children’s workshop with Sara Myrick, on Tuesday, October 4, 3:30-5 pm. Using a variety of upcycled materials, participants will be able to craft their own house and grounds, decorated as they choose—spooky or just autumnal. Cardboard, colored paper and tissue paper, seasonal decor and adhesives will be used to create the structures.

Eastport Arts Center is at 36 Washington Street, Eastport and eastportartscenter.org, and is handicapped-accessible. The EAC abides by the State of Maine CDC COVID guidelines. Additionally, at this time, the EAC recommends that people wear masks when in our building.

The Community Caring Collaborative's Work Group meets with Poverty Busters on Zoom from 1:00-3:00 pm on the first Wednesday of each month. Work Group members are direct service workers, volunteers and agency admins who come together to share resources, support each other and brainstorm solutions to community needs. Poverty Busters are low-income community members, partners from agencies, and other community members working on grassroots strategies to increase poverty awareness locally and to remove the barriers that poverty creates. Both groups are now meeting together to improve communication and to ensure that the CCC is effective in helping to change outcomes for those it serves. Parents, service providers and other community members are welcome!

To join, you'll need a playable ukulele tuned to GCEA, a tuner, a sense of humor, a computer or an iPad on which to participate in this Zoom course, plus a solid knowledge of the primary six chords in each of the keys of C and G.
