On Saturday, July 23rd, DLLT is pleased to welcome mushroom expert Greg Marley back to Grand Lake Stream. Always a community favorite, Greg will lead a day-long workshop to discover all of the edible, medicinal, and cultural wonders of mushrooms! Meet at the Grand Lake Stream School Building at 9:30 am – the first half of the class will be held indoors, presenting varieties and foraging techniques, and the second half of the program will be an interactive walk in the Community Forest, with hands-on identification lessons. Participants should bring their own lunch and drinks, and dress for the outdoors.

Space is limited and pre-registration is required. To register, please contact Sarah Cote at scote@downeastlakes.org.

Want to show off your culinary skills? Sign up to be a contestant in the Downeastah Flavah Cook-off today. Participation is free - just provide 100 samples of your dish for tasting! This event will be held on August 6 from 4-6 pm at the Community of Christ Church in Jonesport. Categories include appetizers, side dishes, soups, main dishes, desserts, and more. Prizes will be awarded.

To register, contact Peabody Memorial Library at 207-497-3003 or stop by the library to pick up a form. Tickets to the event are $20 and will be on sale July 1, with a limited quantity of 100 tickets to be sold.

Low Low Tide Adventures

Downeast Maine is famous for our 22 foot tides, and the cold Labrador current creating extraordinary algal abundance. Kacie Loparto will guide amateur harvesters to learn about wild seaweeds in Maine during a two day workshop from June 18-19 from 7:30 to 11:30 am! We will cover ecology and biology of seaweed ecosystem, hand-harvest techniques, regulations, drying, processing and culmination of the wild algae species that abound in our area.

This workshop costs $20 and can be registered for here. You are also welcome to join in the seaweed harvest any morning the week of June 13-19, free of charge.
