Drumming with Noel Brennan

Online Event Anywhere you can connect to the internet, ME

Expanding EAC’s online education to include music, the center will offer a free four-week Sabar Drumming class for teens and adults on Mondays, May 3 through 24th, from 7:30 - 8:30 pm, via Zoom, with Noel Brennan. Originally from Robbinston, and currently Director of Jazz Studies at Brooklyn Conservatory, Brennan has taken lessons over many years from African drumming masters from Maine to California and has also transcribed field recordings. He will instruct the classes using compositions from Africa— some of these more than 5,000 years old—that use the Wolof language-based drumming technique. This communal form of communication can be audible as far as 9 miles away!

For more registration information and pick-up arrangements, please email Alison Brennan by May 3 at alison@eastportartscenter.org. Students will need some type of hand drum that is big enough to be played with one hand and one stick.

Funding for this free workshop has been provided by the Cricket Foundation. Donations will be gratefully accepted here.

Click here for more information about Brennan, and the range of programming he has brought to the Arts Center over the years.
