Cobscook Institute offers open studio pottery time for $10 an hour for past pottery students and anyone with basic clay experience.

Volunteers Wanted for Maine Owl Pellet Project

The Maine Owl Pellet Project wants you! The project is hoping to engage as many outdoors people as they can to increase the number of eyes on the lookout for owl pellets on the ground in Maine. In doing so, we can discover more about the fascinating world of owls, their prey, and the ecosystems they call home.

Downeast Lakes Land Trust 4 Water Street, Grand Lake Stream

A new story is up on the DLLT Storybook Trail: “The Boy Who Drew Birds- A Story of John James Audubon”. This picture book biography is great for all ages to enjoy along the trail.

Come listen to the birds in the forest as you read about John James Audubon’s love, research, and understanding of birds. The thing he loved most was to be in the great outdoors watching his beloved feathered friends. Through careful observations and drawing skills he laid the foundation for all that we know about migrating birds in North America today.

Music for Children auditions underway

Eastport Arts Center (EAC) 36 Washington Street, Eastport

The Eastport Arts Center’s Music for Children program is seeking young performers for a musical production of YOU CAN’T SIT HERE—A Children’s Opera, with music by Gregory Biss and script and lyrics by Catherine J.S. Lee, to be performed in October of 2023. Roles are available for young people who can portray 6th or 7th graders. This is a musical and all parts will involve singing; all experience levels are welcome to audition.

Youth Drum Circles with Gene Nichols

Eastport Arts Center (EAC) 36 Washington Street, Eastport

Eastport Arts Center will offer a free 10-week session of Youth Drum Circles led by Gene Nichols on Wednesdays, beginning March 22. Each week there will be separate sessions for students age 9 to 13, from 3:30-4:40 pm, and for students age 14 to 20, from 4:45 to 5:45 pm. Participants will explore the world of percussion alongside Nichols, an engaging teacher who will provide a wide variety of instruments; students are also welcome to bring their own.

The sessions are offered free of charge thanks to a generous grant from Healthy Acadia. Pre-registration with Alison, alison@eastportartscenter.org, is encouraged, but youth are welcome to join in at any time. Please note that in case of weather-related school cancelation, Drum Circle too will be canceled.

EAC is handicapped-accessible and abides by State of Maine CDC COVID guidelines. Additionally, at this time, the EAC encourages people to wear masks when in our building.
