Call for Luminist-inspired works

Eastport Arts Center (EAC) 36 Washington Street, Eastport

The Eastport Arts Center’s Washington Street Gallery is planning an Open Show inspired by the Luminist movement for September, 2023. Artists are invited to contribute original, new artworks for the exhibition. (Shown: "Ship in Fog, Gloucester Harbor" by Fitz Henry Lane, 1860)

Island Readers and Writers is bringing Annette Leblanc Cate, author and illustrator of Look up! Birdwatching in Your Own Backyard, to Lubec. Annette will give a 30-minute presentation about Look Up!, birdwatching, and her work as an author and illustrator, open to the public. An art workshop will follow where participants will learn about nature journaling, observation, and draw a zine with Annette!

Participants in the art workshop will also receive a copy of Look Up!; registration is required (call 207-733-2491 or email the library). The event will be held on May 22 from 4-6 pm at the library.

EAC to Host Biweekly Writers Group

Eastport Arts Center (EAC) 36 Washington Street, Eastport

A writers’ group for people seeking help and constructive input on their in-progress work is scheduled to kick off Monday, February 6, at the Eastport Arts Center. The group, led by published author Catherine J.S. Lee and retired writing teacher Paula Horvath, will meet every other Monday beginning at 6:30 pm at the Center for about two hours. Suggested donation of $5/session; sliding fee scale is available by request (no one turned away). To get involved, email with an introduction and a bit about your current work.

EAC is handicapped-accessible and abides by State of Maine CDC COVID guidelines. Additionally, at this time, the EAC encourages people to wear masks when in our building.
