Eastport Arts Center Prize for Poetry seeks submissions

The EAC Prize for Poetry, an open contest, will run April 1-June 30. Submissions of original and unpublished poems are welcomed by youth and adult writers on two general themes: ‘The Sea’ and ‘The Woods.’ Winners will be announced on August 26; winning selections will be published in a hard copy magazine format, as well as online via the Arts Center’s website. $1000 in prizes plus other perks will be awarded for the selected poems.

EAC’s 9th Annual Student Art Exhibition

Eastport Arts Center will present the 9th Annual Student Art Exhibition from April 1 through May 4, at Washington Street Gallery. All are invited to a special reception for the show, to be held from 2-4 pm, Saturday, April 8. The show is open 1-3:30 pm, Wednesdays and Thursdays, during EAC events, or by chance or appointment; please email info@eastportartscenter.org to inquire.

Like last year, all proceeds will be donated directly to our local food bank in St. George. If you would like to contribute, we will be seated at the food bank pantry on Main Street in St. George and accepting food/cash donations from 11 am - 2 pm.

Pleasant River - Columbia Falls Boat Launch Columbia Falls

Downeast Salmon Federation is bringing back the Annual Smelt Fry on Saturday April 29 from 12-4 pm! There will be several events held along the Pleasant River in Columbia Falls.

Our Pleasant River Hatchery will be open to tours along with many informational tables and fun outdoor activities. And of course fried smelts caught by DSF volunteers along with other food provided by local organizations and farms will be available!

EAC: Beginners’ Video Workshop with Jude Kempe

A Beginners’ Video Workshop with Jude Kempe will be offered Friday, April 28, from 5:30-7:30 pm, and continuing on Saturday, April 29, from 1-3 pm, at Eastport Arts Center. Students interested in learning to make short form videos will be guided through the process in this simple and straightforward workshop. The workshop is designed for ages 12 and up, and space is limited. There is a $20 registration fee. A sliding fee scale (pay what you can) is available by request. A Conversation About Green Burial

Various venues in Charlotte County New Brunswick

Green Burials are becoming more and more popular with those of us who choose to live our lives within the circle of nature. This meeting is an opportunity to learn more about green burials, including what is possible in Charlotte County. We will also explore creating a local initiative to work towards expanding green burial options including a discussion about the possibility of establishing a local Green Burial Ground.

There will be three meetings around the area to learn about this subject: April 22 at 3 pm at 214 Main St, St. George (at Not Just Backs Chiropractic) and April 23 at 3 pm at Wesley United Church in St. Andrews, and April 29 at St. Stephen University at 3 pm.

Last Saturday Contradance

Eastport Arts Center (EAC) 36 Washington Street, Eastport

On Saturday, April 29, from 6-9 pm, Eastport Arts Center will host a dance with accompaniment by the Moose Island Contra Etc. (MICE) band. All dances will be taught and everyone is welcome, all ages and abilities. Spectators are encouraged to come as well. The event is offered by a suggested $10 donation; children will be admitted free of charge.
