Sparkle by-the-Sea

Join us for our third Sparkle by-the-Sea celebration from December 8 to 11, a holiday shopping and entertainment event. Participating businesses will be open until 9 pm Thursday to Saturday and 12 noon to 5 pm on Sunday. The historic downtown will be decorated for the holiday season. Enjoy live entertainment, ice sculpture carving, daily live music, caroling, and face painting while gathering with friends and family at the Char and Chowder “Christmas Hub”, sipping mulled cider or hot chocolate.

Hang nesting boxes for Saw-whet owls

Downeast Lakes Land Trust 4 Water Street, Grand Lake Stream

Participants can expect to learn about where and when this species nests, what to listen for, and how to help protect them. We will head out into the woods in search of perfect habitat to hang-up some nesting boxes for these adorable owls. Those who are interested may “adopt” the boxes to monitor for owl activity throughout the year. All ages are welcome!

6th Annual Feztival of Trees

Washington County Community College One College Drive, Calais

The shrine clubs of Schoodic and Washington Counties invite you to the 6th Annual Feztival of Trees in Calais at Washington County Community College from December 9 to 11. Come and see the array of trees compiled by businesses, organizations, and individuals in the community and take a chance at winning the tree and all the presents underneath with an inexpensive raffle entry.

Trees will be on display from 10 am to 8 pm on December 9 and 10, and from 10 am to 3 pm on December 11. Admission is $1 for adults and free for children. Refreshments and food will be available. Proceeds benefit the charitable efforts of the shrine clubs.

Village of Blacks Harbour 50th Anniversary skating events

Patrick Connors Recreation Complex 65 Wallace Cove Road, Blacks Harbour

The Village of Blacks Harbour is turning 50 this year, and to celebrate, public skating events will be held at the Patrick Connors Recreational Complex.

On Sundays through February 19, from 12:45-1:45 pm, children and youth are invited to participate in Pucks and Sticks where they can learn some hockey basics at no cost. On Fridays, come for Public Skating from 5:30-7:30 pm. Admission is $2 a skater. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult to either event.

Stage East: The Glass Menagerie

Bank Square Eastport

Stage East adventures beyond the Eastport Arts Center with its next production, The Glass Menagerie. The company will make use of the storefront space at 34 Water Street in Eastport, just across from the Waco Diner, to stage the classic American drama by Tennessee Williams.

Performances will be offered at 7 pm, Fridays and Saturdays, December 2, 3, 9 and 10; and at 2 pm, Sundays, December 4 and 11. Tickets are $15; attendees age 17 and under will be admitted free of charge. Doors for the show will open 30 minutes prior to performances (6:30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays; 1:30 pm on Sundays); attendees are asked to be in their seats promptly at 7 pm and 2 pm.
