Pulped Under Pressure

Gorham and Portland

Join the University of Southern Maine for this exhibition which has two locations: our Art Gallery in Gorham, Maine and our Glickman Library's 7th Floor Reading Room in Portland, Maine. With traditional hand papermaking at its core, PULPED UNDER PRESSURE underscores important contemporary issues steeped in history and craft. Enticed through touch, these works encourage a contemplative slowing down even as they urge acknowledgment of some of the most pressing issues (environmental crisis to global marginalization) facing civilization today.

This is an ongoing exhibit through December 9. The hours for the Art Gallery are 11 AM – 4:30 PM, Tuesday – Saturday. The hours for the Glickman Library are 8 AM – 4 PM, Monday – Friday.

Christmas Bird Count needs feeder watchers

Greater Passamaquoddy Bay region

The 123rd annual Eastport area Christmas Bird Count will take place on Monday, December 26. If you watch birds at a bird feeder the Christmas Bird Count could use your help. If you can identify common birds like a Cardinal, Blue Jay, Black-capped Chickadee, or a Goldfinch, etc., you can participate in the oldest citizen science project in North America.

The Eastport Area Count Circle, which includes Eastport, Campobello, Deer Island, Perry, Sipayik, Lubec, and Trescott is in need of as many people from these areas who enjoy watching birds at their feeder. If you are interested in helping out please email Philip Krajewski at pkrajewski3@yahoo.com for details.
