Sharing the Love: Online Exhibition 2021

Online Event Anywhere you can connect to the internet, ME

As part of our "Sunbury Shores: The heART of our Community" campaign, we're running another online exhibition until the end of February.

We're inviting you to create artwork that expresses something you love - and submit photos via direct message - with your name, and a brief description of your work and we will feature it on our page, adding it to this new album!

Featured Featured Event Series Poets at the Window at Sunbury Shores

Poets at the Window at Sunbury Shores

Online Event Anywhere you can connect to the internet, ME

Sunbury Shores is creating a window installation for displaying local poetry! Submit your poem to info@sunburyshores.org and we will select a collection to print for the public to enjoy! If you are looking for inspiration to get going, might we suggest the following: Create short phrases in your poetry that reach out to people as they pass; comfort them, make them think, share a thought that's stuck with you; or make poems that jump into people's pockets as they carry on through their day.

Featured Featured Event Series Pulped Under Pressure

Pulped Under Pressure

Gorham and Portland

Join the University of Southern Maine for this exhibition which has two locations: our Art Gallery in Gorham, Maine and our Glickman Library's 7th Floor Reading Room in Portland, Maine. With traditional hand papermaking at its core, PULPED UNDER PRESSURE underscores important contemporary issues steeped in history and craft. Enticed through touch, these works encourage a contemplative slowing down even as they urge acknowledgment of some of the most pressing issues (environmental crisis to global marginalization) facing civilization today.

This is an ongoing exhibit through December 9. The hours for the Art Gallery are 11 AM – 4:30 PM, Tuesday – Saturday. The hours for the Glickman Library are 8 AM – 4 PM, Monday – Friday.

Pembroke artists featured in latest EAC video

Online Event Anywhere you can connect to the internet, ME

If you missed the recent performance of Barbara Toothpick and Alan HorseRadish at the Eastport Arts Center, or if you'd like a refresher, good news! The performance is now available for viewing online as EAC's most recent video release. Toothpick's original songs tell stories about events in Pembroke in the 1970s and 1980s when the couple lived in Washington County full-time: the 3rd of July dance at the old high school where the fire station is now; the fight that brought 27 cop cars into town; the dirty movies Howard Smith showed in the Sears building across the street from the couple’s home; and the Girl Scout song Toothpick wrote while HorseRadish was Scout Leader.

See the video here.

John Rule, who has been involved in photography since the 1960s and has exhibited internationally, utilized a century-old camera to capture these images, using large format techniques that produce silver-based negatives five inches by seven inches. Each is processed individually in his own darkroom, then produced as the contact prints seen here. The subject matter is Lubec, and only Lubec, over the last eight years.

For library hours, see this page. Each photograph is for sale at $50; proceeds will go to the library.
