Artist to Artist: Diana Young

Online Event Anywhere you can connect to the internet, ME

Eastport Gallery’s Artist to Artist video series continues with a studio chat and interview with painter Diana Young. Diana has been a member of the Gallery for over 32 years, splitting her time between Bangor, where she lives, and Eastport, and managing to participate in both artistic communities at the same time.
“I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Diana more during the afternoon that I visited her studio last fall,” wrote Jude Kempe, creator of the Artist to Artist series. “Diana is an amazing, enthusiastic, joyful, playful, accomplished and prolific painter with one wicked sense of humor!”

Craft-along with Nia – Make Your Own Rainsticks

Online Event Anywhere you can connect to the internet, ME

EAC KinderArts video workshop series continues with ‘Craft-along: Make Your Own Rainstick.‘ In this month’s video, instructor Nia Aretakis demonstrates a technique for creating a child-sized rainstick out of simple household materials, and encourage participants to experiment with different ‘fillings’ for their sticks to create different sounds.
The video also features original music by Dan Cashore, a multi-instrumentalist from Robbinston, Maine, whose musical palette includes didgeridoo, erhu, rain stick, shakers, guitar and handmade stringed instruments.

Printers Inc Exhibition

Sunbury Shores Arts and Nature Centre 139 Water Street, St. Andrews

Ink Off the Wall
Amy Ash / Alanna Baird / Nathan Cann / Ryan Livingstone / Ann Manuel / Bob Morouney

Using printmaking as one of the many elements of their creations, these established artists all explore the nature of printmaking in its most elemental form—the transfer of marks onto a surface.

Whether is it printed ink on paper that then speaks to a 3-dimensional piece, or inked fabrics printed onto other fabrics, incorporated into multiple layers, or deconstructed to demonstrate the tonal range and how we use colour to indicate depths and textures—this print work literally flows off the wall.

Each artist represented here has a unique view of the world and their place within it. These pieces invite you to get closer, to really look at and through the layers, explore the textured details, and consider the juxtapositions and connections.

Poetry & Pie Night

Online Event Anywhere you can connect to the internet, ME

Eastport Arts Center invites all to an informal online gathering in celebration of April as National Poetry Month on Friday, April 30 at 7 pm. The Poetry & Pie Night will begin with a reading by Linda Aldrich, Poet Laureate of Portland, Maine, and continue with local poets Catherine Lee, Valerie Lawson and Michael Brown.
Participants are encouraged to join the Zoom-based event, whether to read a poem—one they’ve written or one that they like—or just to listen. Zoom host Mark Macey will serve as emcee; the literary offerings will be interspersed with a special pie-making demonstration by avid baker Chris Grannis. Grannis’ choice for the demo is a peach galette, a French-style freeform pie method ideal for showcasing scrumptious fruit in no-fuss fashion.
To receive a Zoom invitation for the event, please email by noon on Friday, April 30. This program is offered free of charge; donations may be made by clicking here.

More information about this event, including featured poets' bios and poems from last year’s online festival, may be found here.
