Artist to Artist online

Online Event Anywhere you can connect to the internet, ME

A new video series, Artist to Artist, produced by gallery member Jude Kempe, will be featured on the Eastport Gallery website. Kempe says “The series idea came about because as an artist myself I am interested in asking fellow artists questions like, ‘Why do we make art? Why did we choose to be artists? What are our influences?’” The series will feature in-studio chats, interviews and discussions between artists who have been drawn to the Eastport area for many years and for many different reasons.

The first video features part one of Kempe’s in-studio chat with sculptor and founding Eastport Gallery member, Elizabeth Ostrander. Links to this series and all Eastport Gallery shows and events may be accessed at https://www.eastportgallery.com/.

Finding Your Side-Hustle – Entrepreneurship in Rural Maine

University of Maine Machias 116 O'Brien Ave, Machias

In this session, Betsey N. Brown-Benner of Maine Fae Art will be telling the story of the development and opening of her small, commission art business.

Betsey is a 21-year-old woman from Downeast Maine. From a young age, Betsey was exposed to the arts and it became her passion. In her adult life, she believed there was a need to support niche art and pursued her dream of starting her own side business. When asked “What is it about your art that makes you want to take this approach,” she responds, “It allows it to be more personal. My personal art isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, however, if I can create a commission that someone loves and that is centered around their ideas, I am happy. That happiness is something I am determined to share.”
