Eastport Arts Center’s Children’s Theater Workshop (CTW) will begin a new session on Saturday, January 11. The group will meet from 10-11:30 am, and be held weekly on Saturdays. Led by Mark Macey with assistance from Chris Grannis, the group will introduce young people to theater arts, including an array of theater games and exercises. The group will discuss interest in a possible production for this spring at EAC. CTW is free for participants, and open to children aged 7 to 17. Children younger than age 7 should be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

The Downeast Rainbow Alliance (DRA) in collaboration with UMM's Omicron Delta Pi (ODP) is pleased to announce monthly Inter-Generational Craft Time in Whiting. On 2nd Saturdays the DRA & ODP will be hosting a "bring your own craft" circle from 10 a.m. til 12 p.m. at Cobscook Friends Meetinghouse on Route 189 at the town line of Whiting and Trescott. The event is designed to foster community for LGBTQ+ people and Allies. This is an all ages event, with playtime for children, snacks for everyone and opportunities for playing music as well. Bring your knitting, sewing, mending, button maker, coloring or wherever you land in the crafty realm. This craft circle will be meeting on the 2nd Saturdays through the month of May. Seed Starting Workshop with Paula Kovecses of T.W.I.G.

On Saturday, March 14th from 1:00-2:30, Paula will present a hands-on Seed Starting Workshop. Those who may be confused about seed types such as open-pollinated, heirloom, or hybrid can learn what type of seed is best for their organic vegetable and flower gardens. Participants will discover everything they need to know to grow seed from start to finish. Those attending are asked to bring egg cartons, newspaper, or yogurt cups for seed-starting, as well as any extra seeds they would like to share. All other materials will be provided. Subsequent related programs on seed saving will be offered in September and October at the end of the growing season. Participants are asked to register in advance by stopping in or calling the library, 853-4021.

EAC’s Second Saturday Open Mic—Series Finale

EAC’s Second Saturday Open Mic series finale will be Saturday, March 14, from 6-8 pm. Spectators and performers of all ages are invited to the family-friendly event, which is held downstairs at EAC. The event boasts free admission; donations are gratefully accepted, and complimentary beverages and snacks are provided. All types of performances are welcome; maximum time slot is 10 minutes, but shorter acts are also acceptable. EAC will provide a small sound system, and all interested in performing can sign up upon arrival at the event, or in advance by email. EAC Open Mic nights are possible due to the generous sponsorship of local businesses. March sponsor is Bay City Garage.
