This workshop is for those who have oil painting experience, or who have taken a previous course with Maggie. Artists are encouraged to step out of their comfort zones and execute work with more complexity. Techniques and methods to broaden the understanding of representational painting will be explored through daily introductions to contemporary painters. Emphasis will be placed on exploration and the "big picture" aspects of creating a complete whole, no matter the chosen technique. Subject matter is up to each individual. Working from life and/or photographs are equally encouraged. The option to develop one piece or several are up to the individual. Participants are encouraged to arrive with a variety of possible ideas to explore. Discussions on all aspects of oil painting will develop in the moment based on the work being created.

Lighthouse Days
When he was 16, Chris Mills walked into an employment centre in Halifax and said "I want a job as a light keeper". An advisor told him there were no more keepers. Seven years later, Chris took a three-week relief shift at the Cross Island lighthouse near Lunenburg, NS, where indeed, there were still keepers (although not for long). As the Coast Guard de-staffed lighthouses, Chris moved from light to light in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick until complete de-staffing chased him to British Columbia, where light keeping was alive and well (as it is today). It was a dream come true for Chris, and his interest in lighthouses continues to this day. Join Chris as he takes a look back at lightkeeping in the 1990s, and as he explores Canada's lighthouse legacy, with a special look at Grand Manan’s Gannet Rock Lighthouse. Admission by Donation.
