Birds of a Feather Exhibition

For this show three artist have created works using their own interpretation of the same species of birds. Dianna Ammons Johnson expresses her passion for birds through her photography.  Bonnie Clymer began to experiment with combining gold leaf and oil painting while and discovered that a gold leaf background placed emphasis on the shape and texture of the image it surrounded. Michael Morse is a folk artist who uses driftwood, glass, found objects and a sense of humor to create three dimensional pieces.  Birds are a favorite subject and many of the natural items used often have bird-like qualities.

Discover the beautiful rich blacks and soft tonal ranges of Mezzotint engraving. This course will focus on the working and printing of your image on a pre-mezzotinted plate. Instruction will also be given on ‘rocking’ your own plate plus tips and tricks for printing mezzotints. Each student will edition at least one finished mezzotint.

Eastport Arts Center’s Summer Workshop Series will feature a special Movin’ and Music KinderArts Class with Beth Goodliff on Tuesday, July 16 from 10 to 11 am. The free session will offer an interactive music experience for young children, sure to get the kids and their caregivers singing and moving to great tunes! Beth Goodliff, music teacher for AOS 90, loves music and keeps busy with the Machias Blueberry Musical, Quoddy Voices, the Passamaquoddy Bay Symphony Orchestra, the University of Maine at Machias Chorale and with her cover band, Lost Cat and The River City Rats. She also loves theater, dancing and enjoys watching Marvel superhero movies with her husband and two daughters.

Zen DownEast, a welcoming group of meditation practitioners,
 meets Tuesdays from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Downeast Massage Therapy building at 848 U.S. Rte 1, Pembroke, ME.  The one-hour meetings include Zen meditation, Zen liturgy, and meditation
 instruction. We also offer drop-in classes on the writings of Zen Master Eihei Dogen from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm which you are warmly invited to join at any time.  If you are new to Zen DownEast, please arrive fifteen minutes early for a brief orientation. Zen DownEast is committed to creating an inclusive sangha and strives to embody the ideals of mutuality and  interdependence. Full Moon Paddle on Musquash Stream

A summertime favorite in Grand Lake Stream, Downeast Lakes Land Trust is leading the annual Full Moon Paddle along Big Musquash Stream on Tuesday, July 16.  There is nothing like seeing a full moon rise over this exemplary 5,000-acre wetland that is the eastern boundary of the Downeast Lakes Community Forest.  Interested participants should meet at the bridge on Milford Road at 7:30 pm.  This is an easy paddle, and all participants must bring their own boat, paddle, and PFD.
