Opening Reception for A Painter’s Retrospective: Works by David Orrell

July 5 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Eastport Arts Center (EAC) 36 Washington Street
Eastport, ME 04631 United States
+ Google Map

Eastport Arts Center’s Washington Street Gallery will present A Painter’s Retrospective: Works by David Orrell, for the month of July. An opening reception, including live music by Sánchez & Squibb, will be held on July 5 from 3-5 pm. “A small box of artist’s oil paint given to me on my tenth birthday catapulted me into the art world,” reminisced Orrell. “I set myself up on Wadsworth’s dock and painted the red gasoline pump. Encouraged by this, I followed with another from the South End bridge looking toward Shackford Cove, known then by artists as ‘Motif #1’. My Grandmother was so enraptured by my effort that she hung my tiny landscape over her couch. In 1949 my family moved to Massachusetts. After graduation from high school, I had little choice in life but to go on to art school at the Worcester Art Museum, where I discovered my penchant for teaching. After 35 years as an instructor in public schools in Massachusetts and Connecticut, I retired with my wife to my home in Eastport, where it has been a great joy to have been a part of the art community for over 26 years.”
