Wet Plate Collodion Photography and Occupational Tintypes, with John DiMartino
August 11 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm UTC-4
John DiMartino is a Wet Plate Collodion Photographer and was a 2021 Artist-in-Residence at the Tides Institute & Museum of Art. John will discuss the historical wet-plate collodion photographic process that is used to make tintypes (a photographic image made on a metal plate) with an emphasis on the occupational tintype portraits that were popular during the wet plate era, depicting working men and women with the tools of their trade (a carpenter with his saw, etc.).
John has taken tintypes around Eastport, Maine, and the Maritimes, including Grand Manan, and will be an Artist-in-Residence at Grand Manan Museum from August 4-29. Come learn about this fascinating historic process, see his recent work, and perhaps sign up for a sitting yourself.
