|Recurring Event (See all)
An event every day that begins at 6:00 pm, happening 4 times
The Artist Toolbox is designed for artists who want to develop professional skills necessary to successfully represent themselves and advance professionally. Creating a strong body of work is the most important part of being an artist, but how do you pay the bills, juggle time, money, studio and life? This workshop will do a dive deep into high-priority topics such as: image documentation, finding exhibiting venues, artist-gallery relationships, writing an artist’s statement, bio and resume, building a website, networking, getting exposure, social media, grant writing, finding residencies, time management, money management, income, expenses and sustaining an ongoing professional creative practice.
This opportunity is made possible by the Center for Maine Contemporary Art (CMCA) Artist Toolbox Initiative. The CMCA has announced the “Artist Toolbox” a new statewide initiative designed to develop professional skills and prepare artists to market and successfully represent themselves. This statewide initiative, supported by a major grant from the Roxanne Quimby Foundation, will be offered to Maine artists, through informative presentations and intensive workshops at either no charge or a nominal charge to artists. The CMCA has hired Kim Bernard to administer the program in its inaugural year. “As an instructor and professional artist, having developed and led workshops on ‘Creative & Professional Practice’ and ‘Artist as Small Business’ at colleges and art centers throughout the country, I am looking forward to working with Maine artists on: photographing artwork, digital documentation, websites, gallery representation, pricing, networking, small business basics, etc.”
