‘The Art of Publishing a Local Newspaper’ with Edward French and Lora Whelan
January 16 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm UTC-5
EAC’s Sunday Afternoons at the Arts Center series continues January 16 with ‘The Art of Publishing a Local Newspaper’ with Edward French and Lora Whelan, editor/asst. editor and publishers, The Quoddy Tides. For more than 50 years The Quoddy Tides has been covering the news of the communities around Passamaquoddy Bay and beyond.
French and Whelan will talk about how community newspapers report on everyday life, from the deeply personal, such as a child receiving support from neighbors and friends for a medical procedure, to the political decisions that use taxpayer funds to run the county of individual municipalities. Using a few stories written over the years as examples, French and Whelan will illustrate how coverage of issues over time gives readers information to use to make their own decisions while giving them a broader understanding of the rich history of the place they call home.
Sunday Afternoons at the Arts Center programs are held in the Washington Street Gallery, downstairs at EAC. Admission is free; donations are gratefully accepted. The series will run through April, skipping Easter Sunday. To read the full series lineup, please visit https://eastportartscenter.org/constituent-groups/the-concert-series/.
