Sunday Afternoons at the Arts Center: Passamaquoddy Flute Maker & Performer Rolfe Richter
January 29 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm UTC-5
EAC is pleased to present the return of Passamaquoddy flute-maker, storyteller and performer Rolfe Richter for the Sunday Afternoons at the Arts Center series on January 29 at 3 pm. Attendees will be treated to a program that combines a musical performance and discussion of the flute construction process.
Richter’s last appearance at the Arts Center was in 2012. His journey as a musician and instrument builder has been ongoing for more than 30 years; he recently has begun combining flute sounds with Rav drumming and other instruments. Some of his ‘musical stories’ may be heard on a CD recording, called Dreamwalk. He was born in Machias, and currently lives at Sipayik, near Split Rock, on the edge of Passamaquoddy Bay. A sample of Richter’s playing may be heard on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/M1vH5HvyjXk.
Sunday Afternoons at the Arts Center programs are held in Eastport Arts Center’s cozy downstairs Washington Street Gallery, amidst rotating exhibitions. Admission is by voluntary donation; proceeds are shared equally between the presenters and EAC constituent group The Concert Series, which offers year-round programming run by volunteers. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Eastport Arts Center is at 36 Washington Street, Eastport. The EAC abides by the State of Maine CDC COVID guidelines. Additionally, at this time, the EAC encourages people to wear masks when in our building. More information about EAC programs may be found at eastportartscenter.org.
