Sunday Afternoons at the Arts Center: Painter Lora Whelan
February 12 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm UTC-5

EAC’s Sunday Afternoons at the Arts Center series will continue February 12 at 3 pm, with an interactive talk by artist Lora Whelan, exploring her paintings and process.
In 2015 Whelan, staff writer and assistant editor at The Quoddy Tides newspaper, returned to her childhood love of art. “While words are my first love, I found that I was pretty desperate to get away from them,” she says with a laugh. A blank bit of wall by the household’s front door became the easel for sheets of paper. With a box of inexpensive pastels and no lessons, she decided that she would dive into process and the emotions kept at bay by her daytime work. Her artworks have delved into family legacy, extinction, land use and more while also exploring how paint and surface can be used for expression. Whelan will show a variety of artworks from early on to the present and talk with the audience about the joy of creative exploration. She is represented by Full Fathom Five Gallery.
Sunday Afternoons at the Arts Center programs are held in Eastport Arts Center’s cozy downstairs Washington Street Gallery, amidst rotating exhibitions. Admission is by voluntary donation; proceeds are shared equally between the presenters and EAC constituent group The Concert Series, which offers year-round programming run by volunteers. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Eastport Arts Center is at 36 Washington Street, Eastport. EAC abides by the State of Maine CDC COVID guidelines, revisiting our policy monthly. Additionally, at this time, the EAC encourages people to wear masks when in our building. More information about EAC programs may be found at eastportartscenter.org.
