A Summer Arts Camp for children ages 6-13 will be offered from 9 am-noon, July 8-12, at Eastport Arts Center. This year’s theme is North Woods Adventures Along the Appalachian Trail. Ann Cannizzaro, educator, and Willy Claflin, musician and storyteller, will engage campers in an exciting experience learning about the famous trail that ends in Maine’s north woods, with a host of themed projects and Claflin’s humorous songs and stories to boot. Activities will include making bandanas, tin lanterns, painted walking sticks and more gear for summer adventures.

Cannizzaro combines a love for art with experience in education. She enjoys helping children discover new skills, ideas, and mediums through artistic endeavors, and works hard to plan and organize activities that are challenging and fun at the same time. Cannizzaro has a Bachelors Degree in Art Education from the University of Vermont, with a minor in Biology; a Master’s Degree in Literacy from UNE; and a Master’s degree in Educational Media and Design Technology from Full Sail University.

Claflin, a San Francisco-based professional performer, is often called a “one man festival.” He delights his audiences with a mix of music, fantastical tales and a flair for the absurd. Assisting with the storytelling and song-spinning is Claflin’s sidekick, Maynard the Moose, an appealing and animated puppet.

Camp fee of $15/day or $70/week includes materials and lunch; additional siblings can register for half-price. Space is limited; to preregister, please email Alison Brennan, EAC’s Education & Outreach Coordinator at or call her at (207) 454-8822. The Eastport Arts Center is at 36 Washington Street, Eastport and at, and is handicapped-accessible. EAC workshops are partially funded by the Maine Community Foundation’s Belvedere Handcrafts Grant; a sliding scale for fees is available by request.
