StudioWorks Artist Talk – Billy Joe Miller, Dana Lynn Harper and Bethany Springer
September 18, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm UTC-5
StudioWorks Artists-in-Residence Dana Lynn Harper, Bethany Springer, and Billy Joe Miller will host open studios and artist talks on Wednesday, September 18, beginning at 7 pm at StudioWorks, 48 Water Street, in Eastport. After the first sessions downtown with Harper and Springer, the evening will continue at the North Church Project Space at 82 High Street, Eastport, for the opening of a large-scale installation created there by Billy Joe Miller. Dana Lynn Harper is an installation artist based in Columbus, Ohio who creates spaces that “spread light and empowerment through the experience of wonderment and beauty.” At StudioWorks, she is making new installation work using metal fishing baskets as armature, and creating column-like structures with fuzzy textures created with paracord, plastic lace, iridescent films and other materials. Bethany Springer currently lives and works in Fayetteville, Arkansas and is an Associate Professor in Sculpture at the University of Arkansas. At StudioWorks she is conducting research into the experience of place and recognition of identity, creating small sculptures and fabricated landscapes to be photographed, digitally manipulated and printed as postcards. Billy Joe Miller is a interdisciplinary artist. He creates architectural interventions, performance and immersive environments in response to the natural world. At StudioWorks he is creating an installation in the North Church Project Space using found rope and tensioning wires to create large-scale geometric patterns and shapes in response to the architecture and local environment. His presentation will include sound and performative elements. For more information about the artists, see their websites: danalynnharper.com, bethanyspringer.com, billyjoemiller.com
The StudioWorks Artist-in-Residence Program, now in its seventh year, is an initiative of the Tides Institute & Museum of Art.
