Plein Air Painting Workshop in Lubec, Maine
July 28 @ 8:00 am - July 31 @ 1:00 pm$300.
Join award-winning artist Michael Chesley Johnson for a plein air painting experience you won’t forget! Learn the basics for painting outdoors on-location in one of the world’s most beautiful coastal areas. Michael will show you how to capture that beauty quickly and easily but without sacrificing mood or magic. He’ll show you his method of choosing a subject, creating a value study and then translating that into paint or pastel. Subject matter includes bold cliffs, quiet cobble beaches, ocean vistas and the rustic waterfront of the historic village of Lubec. Four half-days, Tuesday-Friday, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. These workshops are usually small, allowing for plenty of personal help at the easel. For full details on the program, visit www.PleinAirPaintingMaine.com.
Michael works primarily en plein air and in oil and pastel in the American Southwest, coastal Maine and the Canadian Maritimes. He has been an invited artist to many national plein air painting events over the years and has competed in challenging locations such as the Grand Canyon. In May 2020, he will be an invited artist and on the faculty for the Plein Air Convention & Expo in Denver, Colorado.
Elected a Master Pastellist by Pastel Artists Canada in 2008, he is a Signature Member of the American Impressionist Society and the Pastel Society of America. He is the author of Backpacker Painting: Outdoors with Oil & Pastel and Through a Painter’s Brush: Campobello Island. A long-time contributor to The Pastel Journal, The Artist’s Magazine and a writer for PleinAir Magazine, he teaches plein air painting workshops across the US and seasonally in New Mexico and Maine. He splits his year between a studio on Campobello Island, New Brunswick, and the high desert of New Mexico. To learn more about Michael, visit www.MChesleyJohnson.com
