Mushrooms of New Brunswick
August 29, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
“Mushrooms of New Brunswick & Grand Manan” with Dr. David Malloch, Mycologist & Research Fellow, New Brunswick Museum. Grand Manan is great place for mushroom enthusiasts. It is part of the Bay of Fundy coastal region, covered by a forest sometimes classed as a type of rain forest. Such a wet forest is a prime spot for mushrooms and yields not only large numbers of them, but also some rather special ones. Although some of these are edible and eagerly sought by collectors, there are reasons for caution and some good reasons why it is best to know the local mushrooms before throwing them into the pot. This talk will focus on the mushrooms most commonly found on Grand Manan, how to recognize them, and why caution is necessary. ADMISSION BY DONATION. (There will also be a guided mushroom walk at 9 am Friday morning (location TBA at the talk).
