The September chantey sing at Pembroke Library will feature songs of work from the age of sail. Pembroke’s Stephen Sanfilippo will be joined by John Martin from New Brunswick, Canada and Jackson Stein from Harrington, Maine. Chanteys were used to set rhythm and tempo for a variety of hand labor shipboard tasks, such as marching around the capstan to wind in thousands of feet of line or chain, each task requiring a different set of songs.
