Made Here: Works from 2 years of artists in residence
August 21 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 10:00 am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, repeating until September 1, 2020
This exhibition is an invitational show of those artists who have been with us over the last two years as visiting residents. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, not all have been able to contribute physical work, but we are excited to introduce the first ‘virtual’ element to our exhibitions. Exhibition will run from July 24 – August 22, 2020. Open every day except for Mondays, 10-4pm.
All the work exhibited here is linked through a celebration of our natural world. We ask our applicants to explain not only what their project is about, but why it relates in some way to being at Sunbury Shores, and in this part of the world. We look for artists who appreciate the link between our environment and the statements they are trying to express through their art. Mediums vary widely, from printmaking to fibres and textiles to painting to 3D installations. Artists are encouraged to meet and talk with our residents, who can inform and reveal elements of our unique location—contributing a site-specific and relevant application to work – made here.
As visiting artists in residence explore their own creative processes, they form links and associations with SSANC and local artists and residents, becoming in turn, a part of our environment. This is the reason for this exhibition—a celebration of creative growth and collaboration.
