This intensive weekend workshop is for anyone with some oil painting experience and basic equipment, who would like to expand their painting practice outdoors and create work which records an experience and a sense of place. Participants will work on intensifying observation and finding ways to translate these observations into painting. Topics of discussion include: managing equipment for working outdoors; types of grounds and how to prepare them; choosing good compositions; keeping light and shadow separate; the importance of values and colour temperature; and colour transitions in nature.
Theresa MacKnight is an experienced painter and art teacher who works mainly in oils. A graduate of Nova Scotia College of Art & Design and University of New Brunswick, her painting practice finds her working both outdoors and in the studio, creating paintings that combine a commitment to intense observation and the playfulness of imaginative narrative work. She feels the two ways of working support each other.
