EAC presents: The Virtual Harry Potter Arts Camp Experience

August 5 @ 10:00 am - August 7 @ 11:00 am

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 10:00 am, repeating until August 6, 2020

Hop on board the Hogwarts Express to be virtually transported for a magical art experience with local art instructor Sara Myrick! EAC’s Summer Arts Camp, being held this year via Zoom, will feature a daily Harry Potter-inspired art project for the August 4-6 session, with meetings from 10-11 am each day. Activities will include making your own magic wand, a Monster Book of Monsters, a paint-your-own Lumos/Nox light switch plate and some PolyJuice Potion Slime.  Participants will receive a Hogwarts loot bag of materials, including some special fun activities to do on their own outside of camp-time.

Myrick teaches art full-time for grades K-12 in the Eastport schools, and is owner of Coastal Whims, a home-based art business celebrating her love of nature and handcrafting. In her artistic practice, Myrick is a chameleon, always trying something new, and her workshops and projects have ranged from upcycling—Chihuly-style plastic ornaments and altered books— to print-making, whether on fabric or paper—to jewelry-making, using a wide array of found and handmade objects. In addition to teaching in the schools, she leads many workshops at both EAC and Eastport’s Peavey Library.

The camp is designed for children ages 6-13; the fee is $10 (a sliding fee scale is available by request). Registration is limited; last day to register is August 2, but spaces are first-come, first-served, so go ahead and email Alison to save your child’s spot at Campers’ supplies will be available for pickup* from 10 am to 1 pm, Monday, August 3, or contact Alison for an alternate time/place. Fees may be placed in the coffee can provided. All Covid-19 precautions will be followed by Alison as she prepares the materials packets.

Funding for this workshop provided by Belvedere Traditional Handcrafts Fund of the Maine Community Foundation.

*If you aren’t local or wish for other reasons to provide your own materials, we hope that you can still join us for camp. Please email Alison to indicate your interest, and to receive information about materials you’ll need, and for information on signing in to the class. A registration donation is welcome, but not necessary if you are providing your own materials.
