EAC Films: Powwow Highway

September 17 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm UTC-5

EAC Films will present Powwow Highway (1989, R), directed by Jonathan Wacks, on Sunday, September 17 at 7 pm. Distributor Janus Films synopsizes as follows: “Buddy Red Bow is struggling to keep his nation on a Montana Cheyenne Reservation financially solvent and independent. Philbert, a simple-minded friend of Buddy’s, ardently pursues Native American/First Nation wisdom and lore wherever he can find it—even on Bonanza—in order to earn his warrior name. Buddy’s sister has been arrested in Santa Fe, and together Buddy and Philbert set off on a road trip to look after her kids and go bail her out. As the miles roll by, Philbert’s faith challenges Buddy’s hard-edged view of the world, and together they face the realities and dreams of being Cheyenne in the modern-day US as they fight to free Bonnie and her children and elude the Feds.”

Admission for the film is $7. Following a short break after the film, there will be a discussion group with Jon Bragdon for any who wish to participate.

This screening has been made possible by the Maine Community Foundation Community Building Grant.

Eastport Arts Center is at 36 Washington Street, Eastport, and at, and is handicapped-accessible. EAC abides by the State of Maine CDC COVID guidelines, revisiting our policy monthly. At this time, the use of masks in our building is optional.
