Crafting at Cobscook: An Intergenerational Immersive Experience

August 26 - August 29

Join us for four seriously fun days of creative crafting, play, and rest. During intensive sessions, you can construct your own book, silkscreen on cloth or paper, shape and fire clay, gather and press wildflowers, and more. In between, you can refresh your creative spirit with other spontaneous and guided activities and conversations. Throughout, you will learn new skills and hone and refresh your old crafting chops, finding joy and inspiration within a creative community. Beginner to advanced participants welcome.

We will start each day eating wild blueberries before our instructional time focused on ceramics, book arts, screen printing, or wildflower crafts. (Depending on registration numbers we choices may change.) We will have noontime breaks for healthy lunches including a check-in circle for connecting before open-studio afternoon sessions. Throughout the days there will be space and time for participants to visit our Wall of Reflection, explore their media, socialize, take a nap, or have an adventure.

Our evenings will be spent in celebration! There will be live music and catered dinners Thursday and Saturday evenings on campus. We will feature locally sourced meals and musicians. These dinner parties will be open to participants’ family & friends.

Each day, expert crafters will give instruction during focused sessions and will be available to consult during open studio sessions. During the open studios, participants can proceed with ongoing individual or group projects, or play and experiment with materials. Your hosts and guides over the four days will be Anne Shields Hopkins, Becca Chase, and Cecilia Hopkins, representing three generations of one extended creative family.

The program will take place at Cobscook Institute’s Trescott Campus. For full benefit of the program, we encourage participants to stay with us at the Institute’s Heartwood Lodge. Commuters are equally welcome. This program is designed to build community across generations. Come alone, with a friend, or bring your family!

Our heartfelt thanks to the Maine Arts Commission for generously supporting this community arts project.

Welcome, one and all, to the Cobscook creative community!
