Join current StudioWorks Artist-in-Residence, Cindy Steiler, on Wednesday, July 26, at 7 pm at StudioWorks, 48 Water Street, Eastport, for a talk about the work she’s done during the past month while in residence. Steiler is a Florida-based textile artist who combines interests in traditional photographic processes, found objects and handwork. Says Steiler, “ I draw with thread. It is a slow and meditative way to express myself. It is very tactile. Embroidery has a long history, and placing myself into that continuum gives me a feeling of comfort. Making art gives me a voice to communicate thoughts I can’t put into words: the complexity of love and relationships, death and dying, disappearing. It allows me to tell my story.” While at StudioWorks, Steiler is working on making cyanotypes on fabric, mono-prints, and other projects, hosting a workshop at the Peavey Memorial Library, and will participate in open studios.
Find out more about these projects and how they fit into the artist’s practice at the artist talk. The StudioWorks Artist-in-Residence program, now in its fifth year, is an initiative of the Tides Institute & Museum of Art.
