A Dennysville Soldier at the 1864 Battle of the Crater: John P. Sheahan’s Civil War

Join Dr. Jim Oberly as he takes us back to the 1860s to learn about John P. Sheahan who was born and raised in Dennysville, Washington County, Maine. Following his older brother William, the 20-year-old John volunteered for the Union Army in 1862 and served in the First Maine Cavalry Regiment as an enlisted trooper, and later as a commissioned officer in the 31st Maine Infantry Regiment.

This is a hybrid class – held in-person in UMM’s room SCI 102 and via Zoom. Free for members of Sunrise Senior College; $10 for the general public.
